Superintendent Announcement Concerning Coronavirus

As our nation, state, and communities face the impacts of COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus, the Tishomingo County School District wants to be proactive in our response to the virus and its spread. Due to many of our students, parents, and staff traveling over Spring Break to other states and countries, we feel it is best to cancel school next week, March 16 – March 20, 2020. This will allow us to give space and time to travelers in order to see if symptoms of COVID-19 appear. Our district is taking every precaution to insure campuses are ready for students to return to our daily routines. Each campus has undergone cleaning and sanitizing over the break and will continue to do so throughout this pandemic. On Friday, March 20th, faculty and staff will report to their respective schools for training and instructional planning moving forward. The district has a plan moving forward with educating staff and students on proper steps to prevent the spread of the virus. As always, the public should follow the guidelines issued by the Center of Disease Control:
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or the crook of the elbow
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are unavailable.

Also, the district is cancelling all field trips at this time and restricting visitors to our campuses. All sporting events for March 16-March 22 will be cancelled as well. This situation is fluid and will change from week to week. At this time, we feel allowing this week for our community and district to continue to assess the situation moving forward is best for our students, parents, staff, and community. Please be aware that days missed may have to be made up in May. We will await guidance and make that determination in the near future. Also, we will revisit our exemption policy for final exams to insure students have the capability to keep their exemption status. We have information regarding COVID-19 and other related information on our district website (www.tcsk12.com). If you have questions, feel free to contact your child’s school or the district office.
